Self-to-self.com:WhatRuthWrites

Here you will find my personal poetry, essays and other word-works, as differentiated from the Speaker Material, Mysitcal Verses and related writing, posted on the Self-to-self site. This blog will be for different writing ventures, new ideas, things thought of in the middle of the night, and the explorations of inward self-to-Self spaces and places - far-away, foreign yet familiar.

The only way to know anything meaningful about me, is to read the Speaker Material. If the proof is in the pudding, my working credentials as a Reality Theorist are written into my lifetime's production of that material. My studies did take me to the University of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, for several years in the late 1980's. Yet, as my higher education, my various other pursuits and passions led me into the inner circles of profound learning beyond only the academic, intellectual. My identity cannot be separated from my work of Self-to-self life study. As a line from one of my poems goes, "...I cannot tell where I end and you begin"... I was born in Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada. I've lived in the Provinces of British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Ontario, Canada. I have worked at a wonderful variety of jobs, and owned a couple of small businesses ventures. For the last 20 years I've lived with George, my husband of 37 years, and our 18 year old tabby cat Min, in the countryside between the two small cities of Cambridge and Guelph, in Ontario, Canada. The editing, publication and current work of The Speaker Material and my poetry, are on going.

Personal and Global revolution—who started this war anyway?!

Hello Everyone.

I recently wrote a comment on a blog about the role of women in Egypt’s current political revolution. (See, http://www.care2.com/causes/womens-rights/blog/the-women-of-egypt-a-strong-defiant-force/ ).

I’m interested in these issues because I have a friend in Egypt, and more than usual lately, our discussions have been stretching my thinking about the possible practical implications of Self-to-self learning. The current Middle East situations represent a clear example of the traceable pathways of creating reality from the inside out of individual concept, into the sociopolitical global arenas of collective action.

In any country, political revolution is actually only a first step to the kind of “real” revolution, which strives to re-design, realistically, the social fabric of real people’s lives. Everywhere, people are recognizing that for any new political structure to be accepted, it will have to grow up from the “a priori” common-law of human rights, as the ideological-social mandate of the people who spark revolution. Ultimately, the life-force of any government’s legitimacy, the ability of any regime’s political power to bind together the comprehensive diversities of every country’s sociopolitical fabric, depends on its mutualistic socioeconomic heartbeat!

There are many who see the aftermath of any sort of revolution with starry-eyed hope, believing that they can invent legitimate authority as political legality, out of the smoldering ashes that are actually social uprising, forgetting that it is inevitably the “cri de coeur” (heart’s cry) for social and economic justice that lights the fuse of all revolution. The corrupt political-power regimes that grotesquely continue to struggle to derail mutual democratic reform for their citizens are under siege across all nations of this world. There are those involved in many struggles against political, social, economic, scientific, medical, educational, cultural, religious/psychological domination-power ploys, who fully understand reality’s human rights as a life-necessity.

If you’ve been reading the material on this site, either on this forum here, or at (http://selftoself.com/messages/amesshome_sum.htm (click the article headings), you will surely be able to connect these dots of creative power. The Self-to-self understandings that underlie our personal, individual responsibility for the intimate reality we each privately create are the same understandings that uphold our social responsibility for our shared world reality that we collectively create.

To grasp the beginnings of our global equity-issues we need look no further than our own lives in our own countries. (The rallying call of feminism, that “the personal is political”, is still true). The world over, each country still struggles to fully implement women’s socioeconomic equality, not just as a political matter, but as part of common-law human rights issues that all countries still squabble with. (Simply look at the current, readily available list ranking countries that consistently undervalue and underpay women’s labour regardless of political endorsement.)

To my mind, the legitimacy of any popular revolution (social or political) arises from the grass-roots grasp of the unifying principle of equalitarian human rights for ALL citizens. Any understanding of human rights and freedom begins with the recognition of the global realities of patriarchy's primary injustice (in varying degrees) that denies women equal social-economic rights. This irrational domination is a power-identity problem that over-rides fact and intelligence at every turn. This false, illogical conceptual view of human identity is the origin of religious sexism clothed in cultural and political ideology and steeped in centuries of historic fictionalization, that too often, still rules people’s lives. Patriarchy’s Self-to-self dishonesty to fact and motive (masquerading under many names), is the original corruption of the universal human truth about human power, and thereby a debasement of human identity. Fundamental Human Rights are by nature, equal rights.

Only such a revolutionary understanding of the roots that currently continue to grow (manifest) this unjust reality, can break the operational hold of sanity-slaughtering political regimes designed specifically to keep humankind blindly perpetuating these sorts of experienced, dominative, petrified power-paradigms.

Clarity of thought need not take generations to electrify into mass revolt against barbarity; truth has no timetable in the current culture of the World Wide Web’s open communication. The generational evolvement of human mind (and spirit) has been naturally progressing, with or without the corrupt, inherited, power-players consent. Time alone can no longer sustain the manufactured, mass ignorance that once held the old guard of degenerate power patterns in place. This is the real hope for a new reality for all people.

As women in every country define their equal rights by joining in humanity's struggles for sane and equitable world development, humanity will redefine itself both ideologically and operationally, from every layer of its learning, as its own growing Self-to-self knowledge. We each need to do our own learning in order to support rational revolution as both personal inward knowledge, and social global enlightenment. We each need to recognize that our own struggles, be they the individual revolutions that overthrow private tyrannical belief systems or the social-political revolutions of whole counties that strive to do the same, are rooted in the very same misidentification of human nature into domination-subordination power.

Regardless of any overarching characteristics that might seem to divide and separate us as the human family, the injustice of denying fundamental human rights to any people, spans every heart, to join us in the common struggle for freedom and dignity for all people. That effort begins within our individuated heart and mind, as each of us frees ourselves from the tyranny of our own irrational power-identity.

Pleading ignorance is fast becoming an illegitimate claim, as our world lurches toward increasingly dire circumstances in every direction; yet humanity’s collective hope is in our collective wisdom to change our own path—if we choose to. Rationality is a choice. Using one’s own intelligence is a choice. Learning is a choice. No one can make me, and no one can stop me. So in the Middle East, in China, in Africa, in our own back yards, whose war is this?

Selfhood: An Intelligent Design of creative energy?

Selfhood: An Intelligent Design of creative energy?
Posted: March 4th, 2009, 12:10 pm

Hello everyone,

Recently I watched a TV program about a U. S. school board dispute concerning “Intelligent Design” as creationist theory, being taught as part of the curriculum alongside Darwin’s Theory of Evolution.

This discussion struck me as formulated from the invisible premise of inherent religiosity as the nexus of all theories of intelligent design. From my point of view, the complicity between Science and Religion in each others self-serving power-over ploys of identifying, naming and deciding the meaning of the concepts of Intelligent Design as a fundamentally religious ideology, should give all of us pause.

Speaker Material’s concepts of self-to-Self reality and its underpinning of intelligent design are not a conceptualization of reality into a fundamentally religious ideology. Such a presumption of religious framework is not within the Self-to-self philosophy. For all of us who believe that human power, as mind-power, is innately intelligent; and further believe that the experiences and concepts of creativity are an intrinsically intelligent form and use of mind-power, the leap to an hypothesis that decides that these ideas ultimately must be a religious belief-system, has missed the point!

Almost 25 years ago, (while at university) I was faced with a similar sort of identity crisis for Self-to-self's reality-philosophy of intelligent design and creation. I found that an assumption of absolute religious definition for our mind-power-origins was as much a chameleon-corrupted concept of our selfhood, as the usurping, exclusive sorts of definitions that Science imposes. There are very many of us who follow a more humanist approach to the questions of consciousness, reality, scientific and psychic-spiritual research, and every brand of discovery; and believe that the human experience of itself is its own proof of intelligent design.

The very point of Speaker Material's reality-philosophy is that neither Science nor Religion holds all of the answers to our human questions about reality and our human world's creation/origin. An article I am currently working on, entitled “The Third Choice”, expresses the Self-to-self thesis that our lack of holistic human progress is driven by the conceptual paradigms of polarity, opposition, and all manner of domination-power identity. It is these very conceptual paradigms that drive the controversy between Scientific and Religious worldviews that continue to prop up and perpetuate the disastrously dichotomous identification of life-reality human nature, and its origin.

Very many human beings (according to much past and current research) are discovering for themselves that there is a “third choice” for their philosophical-psychological, spiritual and pragmatic world-reality views (philosophies). Many of us are making choices to understand life (and formulate world and philosophic conceptual viewpoints)that are not an absolutist’s either-or, black-or-white, picture of self-nature or our compound human existence. To consider that solving our problems, on every front, is within our own power as choices about how we will use our concept-driven mind-power, takes a certain self-faith. Perhaps that is the first conceptual hurdle that humankind must learn how to leap.

Here is to all of us who are looking, as my poem The Listener, remarks, “…out at the world and in at the universe”, http://selftoself.com/poetry/the_listener.htm and innately grasping that our Human Nature and the nature of our reality are not conceptually exclusive. Self-to-self we are each, both sorts of truths as they are literally embodied in our own inclusive existence as the intelligent and creative design of both the Listener and the Speaker of our human existence and origins.

Open minds can open the doors to a different sort of future, for each of us and for all of us. But only by choice.

Regards,

I Haven't Gone Fishing (past Self-to-self.com Listeners' Post articles)

Hi All, (July 31/09)

I've not gone fishing; my 95-year-old father, who lives on the other side of the country, has just been admitted to Hospice care.

My next column will appear here ASAP.
Regards,
Spinfo

continued...

Hello again; (August 6/09)

I did have another column ready to post here, but the personal events of these last few days' prompts me to share another discussion, in the moment.

The impending death of someone we love is an unbidden internal journey through the landscape of our memories, emotions and beliefs, across the inmost expanse of our experiences.

Ready or not, as we are faced with death as one life's unalterable truths, our life-is-learning lessons become something more than simply a mind-matter informed of ideative words. We are suddenly expected to call into real-life practice the compassionate ideals of enlightenment drawn from that vague grasp of our own self growth. The edges of our shared consciousness blur at the same time they focus as we are flung into the cosmic convergence of our self-and-Self with an others' self-and-Self. Such psychic-spiritual confluence pronounces life's undeniable connections of mind, heart and spirit. For our relationships, our connectedness, our shared experiences through time are what tell us the true measure of life's meaning.

We each cope with these critical events in the best ways we can manage. Some of us run away, emotionally hiding, psychologically distancing, and spiritually withdrawing from such difficult times. But it is at these moments that we can most clearly realize our learning and understanding of sharing. As the deepest value of living, forged only from the genuine, evolved from love, the theory and practice of sharing is central not only to our quality of life, but also to our quality of death as our final act of passage from this human focus of our consciousness, into another.

What we participate in, what we share in equal measure of give-and-take with those close to us throughout our lives, is not rendered valueless at our death - as if it were only a conscious choice to suddenly be dismissed as a reality to our consciousness. As we move across that invisible border between life and death, I do not believe that our consciousness is vacant of the knowledge that it has taken us a lifetime to understand. I do not believe our hearts become emptied of their truths, drained of their own kind of knowing. I believe that is the meaning of compassion, and ultimately love.

I am not there, at my father's bedside, yet I'm certain my psychic-spiritual presence is as real as my physical presence, and I am certain that in that blink-of-an-eye that moves us from this reality into another, there is a shared acknowledgment of all that life is, that gives support and ease. I believe there is a comfort and grace drawn from mutual caring that is as real a value to my father as it is to me, as we part in time to each travel our separate paths of the timeless evolvement of consciousness.

I believe there is a holiness to life, and to death, that opens our way forward - inward - Self-ward as we are bound to experience both.

I haven't gone fishing; but where I am (away from these pages) is as gracious a space-and-place as any mountain lake's serenity grants us.

Until I return,
Best Regards,
Spinfo

Cruising the Blogs

Hi out there/in here,

A few day ago I took a minute to go cruising the blogs, and when I saw a blog named "Interesting People" it instantly made me laugh as it sent me thinking back to one of my first remembered "life goals". As a child, I remember seeing, on The Art Linkletter Show, a little boy being asked what he wanted to be when he grew up. ('Razz' - wow am I dating my self here!!!)

No one had ever ask me that question. From the literal interpretation of a child's mind, I remember feeling quite indignant at the suggestion that I was supposed to "be" anything other than what I was. I couldn't quite make sense of such an expectation, for I already was something - I was my self - and why should I need to be something else - what else was there?! However, I did try to see if there was something else I wanted to be when I grew up. The only answer I could come up with was that I wanted to be an "interesting person". It never occurred to me that this was a strange idea for a child, or an even stranger aim for a child in my dire circumstances.

So here I am 50 some years later, and this notion of being an interesting person is still part of my continuing aim of growing into myself through self-development. In a certain way, I will never really know the measure of my success with this intention, for how interesting I am is an opinion, a preference, a judgment for other people to determine from their own point of reference. But somewhere along the early years that quest to be considered interesting to others morphed into the pursuit of becoming an interesting person to my self; since this was the only answer (outcome) that I could be operationally responsible for.

Of course, this whole identity-issue is the central life-lesson in Speaker Material's theory of Self-to-self. The conceptual learning that leads us inward through the value systems of our individual self hood to examine self-worth, significance, and merit, as attributes of our identity, is crucial. Such learning needs be understood and advanced because it is such a vital aspect-of-method, if our learning's goal is "real" enlightenment. Without focusing our learning into the knowledge that gives us clearer pictures of self reality, how will we develop clearer pictures of our larger reality of relatedness to others and our shared world?

Without the concept that says I am worth my own self-interest, self-development and self-knowledge, how will my-reality-as-experience reflect this? If I don't attribute these values to myself and then practice them, then why should anyone else choose to believe these values/attributes about me - and practice them, as the foundation of mutual interaction? This has to do with essential credibility, from every angle, as these sorts of explorations of self-to-Self hood are the "binding thread" of the Speaker Material.

From the Speaker Material's point of view, without the recognition that our power of choice is the nexus of human identity, then we have no conceptual paths into our own power of creation. For to identify ourselves through our choice-toward-development, is to enact the route of human enlightenment; and without both the internal and the external activities that identify us as enlightened human Beings, then we will be hard pressed to create/recreate an enlightened reality to live in. (Of course this is paraphrasing Speaker Material.)

Within the conceptual expanse of the Self-to-self theory is the personal doorway, the opening, the entry into individual learning that is the root of personal development as self-to-Self thinking. Within our self is our power to make the choices that can lead us toward our own unique grasp of both personal and global fulfillment, and enlightenment.
And it is only through this grasp, through this understanding, through this knowledge that we can take the mirrored action - the action that is to accurately create - and arrive at a changed human reality.

What we choose, and why we choose, is what makes each of interesting - to ourselves and to each other. I still can't think of another choice for what I want to be when I grow up...

Lots of Love,
Spinfo (aka Ruth)

Peace, War, Impossibility - Creator-ship run aground

Hi Everybody,

With the continuing eruption of so much global warfare, I'm increasingly frustrated that the inward perspectives on peace, that so many of us are involved with, seem so far outside of the box-of-relevance in political and social discussion, as to be non-existent.

Many who are concerned with the enormous repercussive issues of global conflict realize that any understanding of "the roots of peace" as an antidote, will have to begin within our own thinking; any resolution to any conflict, will come about only as a result of our own mind-works. (My own views here are not unaccounted for as mindful enterprise, having been formulated out of the last two decades of my work on the Speaker Material); yet, like so many of us concerned over global violence of every brand, our inward perspectives are often flippantly dismissed as if they are an illegitimate, lesser kind of knowledge. Many of us have a well thought-out understanding of how the inward conceptual-core that most often defines power as dominative force, has been turned outward - actualized as warfare of every brand.

The actualization that is peace is as equally a creation-of-concept as the actualization that is war. I believe that our integral actions-of-mind are the synthesis of prepetual intellectual and transcendent psychic-spiritual processes; mental motion, projective pursuit as the active agency that we each use to ceaselessly enact our ideas into daily life; and that these "actions-of-mind" are the same methodologies we use for creating both peace and war - whether individually or globally. So to understand the conceptual mind-processes that lead to one, is to have the map that leads to the other.

To my mind, the roots of peace and prosperity, and the roots of violence and warfare, both grow out of the primal imparative of human identity as our nature of creative power. This is by no means a new idea, but perhaps it is an idea "whose time has come - again"? To acknowledge our ability to create as the process of self-actualization, is to recognize humanity's common ground of exsistence - and for existence. To acknowledge our partnered architecture, is to be proactive towards human existence.

Granted, consensus in defining human nature as a creative power rather than a destructive force, may seem to some a simplistic naivety, an inane idealism without relevance to the global issues of peace and war or a sheer impossibility. Yet what does the current creation of global violence and all of its ramifications represent, if not a perfect contradiction to the facts of our identity of creator-ship?

That "you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink", is a particular point in our creative learning. Acknowledging our inviolable, Self-to-self, creative nature, is a choice we make - or not; same point.

Speaker Material explores the breadth of concepts concerned with how we define human identity, and how that identity acts as a blueprint to define the reality we produce. Whether we produce peace or war, success or failure, construction or destruction... what we see is what we get. What we say is what we get. What we do is what we get. Contradiction or consensus... Life is, after all, a game of truth and consequences.

Now where are my glasses, my hearing aid, and my...
